Global Baháʼí Community Welcomes Acquittal of Remy Rouhani

 Bahá’í News – The Court of Appeal in Doha has ruled to acquit and order the release of Remy Rouhani from all charges brought against him. Rouhani, a prominent Qatari Baháʼí figure, was arrested in April of this year and had been sentenced to five years in prison in August. The Baháʼí International Community (BIC) welcomes this positive development and looks forward to his immediate release.

Ms. Saba Haddad, a representative of the Baháʼí International Community to the United Nations in Geneva, stated: “We are deeply delighted by the forthcoming release and acquittal of Remy Rouhani, a prominent Qatari Baháʼí with a long record of dedicated service to his country. We are also relieved that the Qatari judicial system has corrected the misunderstanding that marred the previous trial. Today’s court decision represents a triumph for justice.”

The Baháʼí International Community expressed its deep appreciation to His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar and to the country’s judicial authorities for this just decision.

Dr. Haddad added: “The Arab region has witnessed encouraging steps towards fostering a culture of coexistence and diversity in recent years. The Baháʼís in Qatar and across the region are loyal citizens sincerely dedicated to serving their homelands. We hope that the release of Remy Rouhani signals further progress in Qatar going forward.”
