Amnesty International calls for the immediate release of Baha’i detainees, about detainees from the Baha’i faith in Yemen… as Amnesty International revealed demands for the Houthi militias to immediately release detainees from the Baha’i faith in Yemen.
Baha’i News – Amnesty International once again called on the Iran-backed Houthi militia to immediately release the rest of the kidnapped members of the Baha’i faith who have been detained in the group’s prison in Sana’a since the middle of this year.
This came in a brief statement issued by Amnesty International’s office in the Gulf and Yemen on the organization’s account on the Xbox website, which was attached to a petition addressed to the Houthi spokesman.
Amnesty International said in the statement that the de facto Houthi authorities continue to arbitrarily detain six Baha’is, including workers in the field of human rights and humanitarian work, and they remain deprived of their liberty and prevented from contacting their lawyers.
She added: “The Houthis must immediately and unconditionally release the remaining six Baha’i detainees, who remain detained solely for the peaceful exercise of their human rights.”
On May 25, Houthi militants attacked a peaceful Baha’i gathering in Sana’a and kidnapped and detained 17 Baha’is, including five women and human rights and humanitarian aid workers.
Eleven of the kidnapped Baha’is have been released due to international pressure, but six of them remain in arbitrary detention by the Houthi security and intelligence services.
Amnesty International stated that “detained Baha’is are denied their right to legal advice and are at risk of further violations by the Houthi authorities, including torture and other ill-treatment.”
Amnesty International called for urgent action and signed a petition addressed to Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdul Salam, calling for the release of detained Baha’is “for the peaceful exercise of their human rights….More
