Shrine of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá
Baha’i World Center – The formwork that formed the trellis of the Abdu’l-Baha Mausoleum has been removed, revealing the completed shrine. The emerging shrine stands as a symbol of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s unceasing service to the unity of mankind.

The concrete for the trellis was poured at the end of August over a period of 19 hours, allowing time for it to “cure” before the formwork and scaffolding were removed. With each peeling of the formwork, a heightened sense of anticipation enveloped the site, and the dedicated labor and meticulous planning came to fruition in impressive fashion.

Speaking to the News Service, project manager Khosrow Rezai emphasized the collaborative and cohesive nature of the diverse team working on the project. He said, “Throughout the past four years of working together, the team’s deep dedication to bringing this structure to its highest level of perfection has only deepened.”

Final cleaning of the central plaza is complete. The roof openings are covered with metal to protect against winter rains.

With the EPS formwork and scaffolding in the central area completely removed and the remaining debris from the walls removed with high-pressure washing, the team can begin the next phase of preparing the central plaza and trellis, which will be decorated with marble and glass next year.

Meanwhile, work is also underway in other areas of the site. On the west embankment, irrigation pipes that will supply water to the landscaping are being laid, and soon the final layer of soil will be laid on top of the embankment.

On the east levee, the bulk of the EPS formwork is in place and the team has begun applying gravel, tar, mesh, and concrete to the levee surface. This work is expected to be completed later in the spring, weather permitting...more
